Clepsis dumicolana

(Zeller, 1847)49.0372

An adventive species from Europe first discovered in central London in 2014. In our region the moth had become established on ivy growing up the exterior wall of a house in Longwick, Bucks by the summer of 2015, and for some years this remained the only known colony outside the capital. However, it has since slowly spread out from London into adjacent counties, particularly Middlesex, so we may soon begin to get further sightings in the far south-east of our region.

The moth should be easily recognised from its shape and, despite appearances from the records shown here, is double-brooded (April to July and August to October). It flies in sunshine as well as at night.
