Yponomeuta padella

(Linnaeus, 1758)16.002

Widespread and fairly common across our region. One of three species which are almost identical as adults and cannot reliably be separated at that stage, even by dissection. For acceptable records they need to be found as larvae on the correct food-plant, in this case Blackthorn Prunus spinosa (sometimes Cherry Plum Prunus cerasifera or Hawthorn Crataegus monoglypha), and reared to the adult stage.
