A local species across much of the British Isles, associated with Alder Alnus glutinosa. In our region this is a rare moth which since the millennium has been known from only three sites and hasn't been recorded at all from Bucks. Variable, less well-marked specimens can easily be confused with unmarked forms of Epinotia caprana or Epinotia solandriana.
