A nationally scarce stem-miner associated with young willows and sallows for which there is just one record from our area. Along with Phyllocnistis saligna (which mines the leaves of willows), this pair is currently undergoing some research and there may prove to be a third species involved, Phyllocnistis asiatica which has only recently been added to the British list. Records of adults require dissection. Separation using larval mines is still a work in progress.
