Resident very locally in the region until the mid 20th century, in particular in woodland on the Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire border. Very occasional records of probable immigrants since, including two in 2020, one in West Oxfordshire and one in Berkshire, with more sightings in Berkshire during 2021 and 2022. Records of immigrants of this species have increased more widely and it is a possible future colonist of the region.
