Emperor Moth
Saturnia pavonia

(Linnaeus, 1758) 68.001

Local in the region but probably present more widely at low density. An apparent increase since 2000 with clusters of records in some areas may indicate increased effort with newly developed pheromone lures and the use of captive females to attract the day-flying males. Inhabits open country with low scrub and open, sunny areas in woodland.

Recorded in 50 (64%) of 78 10k Squares.
First Recorded in 1850.
Last Recorded in 2022.
